Ellie Kingwell-Banham is an archaeobotanist at UCL, working as a post-doc on the Comparative Pathways to Agriculture project (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/archaeology/research/directory/compag-fuller). She specialises in macrobotanical and phytolith remains, and has worked on Early Neolithic sites across the Old World. Her research interests include: tracking the timing and spread of cultivated crops, identifying the types of cultivation systems used by early farmers and identifying changes to these cultivation systems (especially the development of irrigation in South Asia, which formed the basis of her PhD). She joined the team for the 2016 excavations at the Jubbah Oasis and conducted extensive archaeobotanical sampling.
