Professor Nicole Boivin is Director of the Department of Archaeology, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History, in Jena, Germany. Her research interests include prehistoric archaeology, maritime prehistory, the relationship between human activity and environmental change, archaeological theory, molecular genetics, bridging the sciences and humanities, material culture, ethics and the relevance of archaeology. The primary geographic areas for her research are South Asia, Arabia, East Africa and the Indian Ocean. She is the Director of the Sealinks Project – an international project investigating the first seafarers of the Indian Ocean.
