Archaeological investigations
Archaeological field work consists of systematic surveys focusing on the margins of ancient lakes – palaeolakes – and river drainages, and excavations of key Palaeolithic and Neolithic sites. The work is taking place in the Jubbah palaeolakes area in the Nefud desert, the Mundafan palaeolakes in Rub al Khali (Empty Quarter), and the Acheulean sites that are distributed over a wide area around the Wadi Fatimah river channel and near the town of Dawadmi.
The archaeological research forms a critical component of the project and is central to testing all six of our hypotheses.
