Rémy Crassard is based in the laboratory at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) which specializes in researching Neolithic developments in the Middle East.

His research interests are influenced by the dispersal of anatomically modern humans out of Africa during the Middle Palaeolithic period, and he specializes in the study of the lithic industries for the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods in the Arabian Peninsula.

Since 1998 he has worked in Oman, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia – he is a member of several international teams working in the region and has directed many excavations and archaeological surveys in Yemen, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
